Games Hosted On

Saturday 30 th May 2009

Premise:

The IC premise for the game is:

Janus Publishing are pleased to announce that they are sponsoring an open invitation conference on Fortean matters this May. The conference will be hosted in Leicester at the end of May and Oswald Bream of Janus Publishing hopes that all those with an interest in the less easily explained aspects of the world will come together to share their experiences, ideas and theories with others of a like mind. The conference will be open to submissions from any person wanting to present at the conference, time permitting.

Janus Publishing is a small press house located in Manchester that specialises in books and papers concerning the exploration and discussion of the Fortean, it is known more for publishing works that debunk myths and are critical in their examination of the odd and occult rather than promoting belief.

OOC premise:

This will be a largely social gathering based around a meeting of the various known occult experienced groups and individuals in the venue. The aim of the meeting is to share information and have a chance to make links with other characters. This does not mean other things won't be going on under that social veneer and secrets may be uncovered.

Ratings Breakdown

Action: 2

There is the distinct possibility that some form of action scene will occur during the course of the game, it may even not be started by a player. Whilst I am a fan of mediation and storytelling over card draws there will be times when challenges have to be made. However given the social basis of the premise and game these action scenes should be rare if present at all.

Character Development: 5

There will be many opportunities for character development alongside the main story. The social premise will allow people to explore there characters and how they interact with others. Not to say that there won't be tough choices may have to be made and those choices will have consequences for whom the Player Characters are when they emerge out the other side.

Darkness: 4

PC Death is a remote possibility in this game. Corruption, meanwhile, is one of the larger themes running in various national storylines in Mortals this year and so has already been seeded into the Venue and will be present at the game. There is also every likeness that some Characters may be 'corrupt' by other character's sense of ethics. That's entirely IC and should be expected in the World of Darkness.

Drama: 3

The premise whilst social is not a formal one. There will still be high stakes in play that will lead to drama and grand story. What can I say? You're all very good at knowing to expect the unexpected by now.

Intrigue: 5

There will be personal mysteries to be solved as well as all the usual personal intrigue, one-upmanship and other power plays that are rife in the player base. Who do you trust and more importantly whom do you believe? Add to that several different agendas may be in play and it could be quite an interesting playing field to pick your way through, If you notice them that is.

Manners: 4

Social Etiquette and Peer Pressure? The decorum of a society entirely depends on what company you keep. There will be expected standards of behaviour from the hosts which will be made clear in advance and there may well be social consequences for not following them. Add in to this the ever present peer pressure and social one-upmanship that seems to follow certain characters around.

Mystery: 3

There will be no central mystery to be solved at the game but that does not mean there will not be any puzzles and mysteries present beneath the façade of the social events.

Pace: 4

The event will be to some extent against the clock in that we have limited time for the main game and as such things will move along at pace to accommodate what we want from the game to occur. Things may not be subtle and slow burn but they will be interesting. Also it is intended that some long running plots in the venue may come to a head at this event.

OOC Specification

Following the experimental nature of the Southern Regional last year this game will be more traditional in its set up, that being a social gathering, a meeting of like minds to discuss and converse. A chance for everyone to meet and catch their breath as it were. I also know I don't really need to say that I'd like you to stay IC from the moment you enter the game area and not to break into OOC chatting, commentary etc because I don't see that at the games anyway but it's in as a request anyway just for the record.

Still should you have any queries do not hesitate to contact me at steveclapton@gmail.com

Storytelling Mechanics

Rules

The game is part of the UK Mortals Troupe Chronicle and as such will be run under the rules set out in the UK Mortals Addendum. All characters must be part of the UK Mortals Chronicle as it exists in its own continuity separate from all the other games.

Pre generated PCs will be available if you contact the lead ST no later than midnight 20 th May 2009. This characters will be provided with reasons to be at the IC event and b given plot lead ins to ensure they have reasons to interact with the other characters present.

Pre Game

I wont lie, you're a troublesome lot. So, if you have anything that your PC would want to do Pre-game, whether it's dubiously occult, terribly mundane (for example: scouting out the area the meeting's in, bugging rooms, setting up a viable escape route, having your mates waiting around the corner with a bunch of housebricks in socks etc) you will need to tell me before midnight 20 th May 2009 or it simply doesn't happen. So, give it a think and drop me a line at steveclapton@gmail.com

Those folk who believe they may do certain inevitable things during game play (whether that is again, terribly occult of you or not) and wish to have the draws than can be sorted before the game, sorted before the game – let me know and we'll get them right out the way so. Streamlining the game for everyone.

Proxy guidelines

Due to the nature of the event and the ST intensive nature of the game I will not be accepting proxies to the event itself.

Downtime Scenes:

I will be making myself available to run scenes whilst we're all gathered together at the convention (as it's awfully handy) so speak to me after the game if you want to rush off and do something IC so that we can organize a time to sit down and work through it, or even find a quiet corner and play through it.
